     Conference Topic: “Applying Natural Systems Thinking at the Cellular, Family, and Societal Levels.”

    This conference includes four distinct presentations (two theoretical and two clinical) to illustrate the necessity of using natural systems thinking to understand biological and psychological complexity at multiple levels; cellular, family and society.

    This conference is designed to help you:

  •       
    1.    Assess a new theory about how cancers develop; TOFT Tissue Organization Field Theory; Relevance to Cancer and Bowen Theory
    2.    Explain how chronic anxiety plays a critical role in the development of all clinical symptoms.
    3.    Apply Bowen’s concept of basic self to assess the level of differentiation in an emotionally challenged individual.
    4.    Contrast Murray Bowen’s concept of emotional fusion in the parent/child relationship with John Bowlby’s description for attachment maladjustment between mother and child.
    5.    Discuss Bowen’s earliest research that led to the development of his concepts of fusion and unresolved emotional attachment.
    6.    Examine a clinical case and discuss the emotional process that can foster the development of psychopathy.
    7.    Explain how the variables in a family emotional process can lead to regression in the individual or the family as well a manifest at the broader level, resulting in Bowen’s concept of societal regression.
